In the Studio
Title references Nick Drake’s song of the same name. Jane is also a gendered name used by police for an unidentified female body. Thinking about how painting has been a historical site and a lens by which to view gender in static and archaic ways. I see images in these dyed canvas pieces - a mammogram, a "calla lily" aka a hole and a uterus diagram - fragmented and sewn back together. How does painting still hold womxns’ bodies in its imagery?
