"Danielle Lawrence takes the potentially daunting legacy of painting and literally turns it upside down and sideways, creating huge, colorful, quasi-representational and quasi-abstract works that she then stages in unexpected ways, forcing the viewer to crawl under or inside her canvasses. The installations create a space for contemplation on what it means to experience a painting."
