It’s It refers to the Bay Area ice cream sandwich retailer which I pass everyday on my way to work. I thought these ceramic pieces look a bit like melted ice cream. The pronoun it can refer to someone of an unidentified gender or sex. The pronoun it is also used to refer to animals and plants and things and is commonly used to identify or define. I like how the ceramic pieces look like things: a tortoise shell, a tooth, etc and feel like they are situated in a grid like archeological dig. The plastic ID badge holders that they are inserted in and tellingly.. don't all neatly fit.. also gives another nod to how our systems of identifying, naming and categorization needs expansion and flexibility.
